Nanophysics and Nanotechnology: An Introduction to Modern Concepts in Nanoscience (Physics Textbook)

Edward L. Wolf "Nanophysics and Nanotechnology: An Introduction to Modern Concepts in Nanoscience (Physics Textbook)"
Wiley-VCH | 2006-10-20 | ISBN: 3527406514 | 308 pages | PDF | 27 MB

With the second edition of his highly successful textbook 'Nanophysics and Nanotechnology', the author has once more provided a unique, self-contained introduction to the physical concepts, techniques and applications of nanoscale systems by covering its entire spectrum from the latest examples right up to single-electron and molecular electronics. The book is basically at the level of an upper level undergraduate engineering or science student. New sections have been added on the use of DNA as an organizing stratagem in self-assembly, silicon nanowires, comments on the new success toward human cloning, the achievement of self-replication in a primitive set of electromechanical robots, recognition in the extra chapters of the acceleration toward alternative forms of nanoelectronics. Additional problems have also been provided.

This is the first of two volumes of this authoritative Cambridge history which review the Republican period, between the demise of imperial China and the establishment of the People's Republic. These years from 1912 to 1949 were marked by civil war, revolution and invasion; but also by change and growth in the economic, social, intellectual and cultural spheres. The chapters in this volume represent new syntheses by leading scholars concerned with Republican China. They examine economic trends in the period and the rise of the new middle class. Intellectual trends are surveyed to show the changes in traditional Chinese values and the foreign influences which played a major role in Republican China. Political development and events are traced until 1928; and the second, companion volume will complete the historical coverage. An introduction by John K. Fairbank placed the period in the context of international trade and influence. Although it is written by specialists, the goals and approach of this Cambridge history are to explain and discuss republican China for an audience which will include scholars, students and general readers who do not have special knowledge of Chinese history. It will be useful both as narrative history and as a reference source on the history and politics of China.

Nuclear Physics (Physics Through the 1990s: A Series): Nuclear Physics Panel, Physics Survey Committee, Board on Physics and Astronomy
National Academies Press | ISBN: 0309035473 | 1986-01-01 | PDF / djvu (ocr) | 240 pages | 7.77 / 4.32 Mb

This volume is the report of the Panel on Nuclear Physics of the Physics Survey Committee, established by the National Research Council in 1983. The report presents many of the major advances in nuclear physics during the past decade, sketches the impacts of nuclear physics on other sciences and on society, and describes the current frontiers of the field. It concludes with a chapter on the recommended priorities for this discipline.

NUCLEAR PHYSICS TODAY
Nuclear physics deals with the properties of atomic nuclei, their structure and interactions, and the laws governing the forces between their constituents. The interactions in nuclei have their roots in the interactions of elementary particles, the quarks and gluons that together constitute nuclear matter. But additional dynamical forces, long known to exist in nuclei, cannot be understood with elementary particles alone, just as new cooperative interactions, not recognizable in nuclei or atoms, are known to exist in macroscopic materials.

The basic questions facing nuclear physics today span a broad range, including strong and electroweak interactions, and cover the properties of the physical world from the microscopic scale of nuclear forces to the large-scale structure of the universe. Nuclear physics deals with many-body aspects of the strong interaction. It also deals with tests of fundamental theories and symmetries. Furthermore, nuclear physics plays an important role in the fields of astrophysics and cosmology. Our understanding of nuclear structure and nuclear dynamics continues to evolve. New simple modes of excitation have emerged, new symmetries are appearing, and some completely new phenomena are being discovered.

Free download of Neutron physics

Paul Reuss, "Neutron physics"
Nova Traduction | ISBN: 9782759800414 | 25.08.2008 | 670 pages | PDF | 7.6MB

Originally just an offshoot of nuclear physics, neutron physics soon became a branch of physics in its own right. It deals with the movement of neutrons in nuclear reactors and all the nuclear reactions they trigger there, particularly the fission of heavy nuclei which starts a chain reaction to produce energy. Neutron Physics covers the whole range of knowledge of this complex science, discussing the basics of neutron physics ad some principles of neutron physics calculations. Because neutron physics is the essential part of reactor physics, it is the main subject taught to students of Nuclear Engineering.

The Problem: Physics. The Solution: How to Solve Physics Problems No one says physics is easy, not even physics professor Bob Oman or microelectronics researcher Dan Oman. They struggled with physics as undergraduates, too, and know the physics student's lament--"I understood everything in lecture and the text, but I couldn't do the problems." That's why they wrote[KIHow to Solve Physics Problems. This book prepares you for physics exams by moving you directly into problem-solving. You learn to solve physics problems naturally and systematically as you read along--before you even know you're doing it--and in a way you simply can't forget. This book also helps you with your homework and gives you a preview of problems that will be on your exams. Plus you get good, solid advice on how to reduce study time, get maximum benefit from class, prepare for your exams effectively, and make your note-taking count. No matter how tough your textbook or how rigorous your course--whether you are studying calculus-based or non-calc physics--this book will help you understand more and improve your grade.
